About UPA

The Uganda Pediatric Association (UPA) was founded in 1993 as a body which promotes improved health and welfare of all children in Uganda. Patronage

The association is under patronage of the minister of health of the Republic of Uganda. The UPA is affiliated with the Uganda Medical Association which is the parent Association

Our Vision

Seeing all children in Uganda grow up and reach their full potential.

Our Mission

To improve the health and welfare of all children in Uganda.

Our Objectives

  1. To promote the dissemination of knowledge of Paediatrics and Child Health that will enhance the welfare of children in Uganda.
  2. To encourage research in all aspects of Paediatrics and Child Health.
  3. To play the role of advocacy for children and act in an advisory capacity to the government, academic institutions, professional bodies and the community in matters pertaining to Paediatrics and Child Health.
  4. To hold or arrange periodic meetings of the members of the association and for medical professionals in line with scientific, medico-political and social purposes.
  5. To circulate information as may be thought desirable by means of publication in medical journals and by appropriate communication methods.
  6. To participate and support members to attend local, regional and international paediatrics meetings.
  7. To maintain liaison with other medical associations and bodies throughout the world and in particular the International Paediatrics Association (IPA).
  8. To improve and promote the welfare and capacity development of all paediatric specialists in Uganda.
Our Executives

The activities of the association are run by the Executive committee that provides leadership, policy direction and implementation priorities. This committee is also involved in resource mobilization and allocation, development of the work plan and providing reports and feed back to the members.

Hon. Dr. Deogratias Munube

President (MBChB, MMed Pediatrics)


Is a pediatrician and currently works with Mulago Hospital. He’s special interests have been in the promotion of quality health care services in the country and has participated in development of quality assurance plans for several facilities.

Hon. Dr. Anne Akullo

Vice-President (MBChB, MMed Pediatrics)


Is a pediatrician at the Sickle cell clinic and currently an Oncology Research Fellow. Her special interests have been in the promotion of quality health care services in the country and has participated in development of quality assurance plans for several facilities.

Hon. Dr. Barnabas Atwine

General Secretary (MBChB, MMed Pediatrics)


Pediatric Hematologist and Oncologist. He is a lecturer at the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health at Mbarara University of Science and Technology. Clinical Head of cancer Services, Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.

Hon. Dr. Daniel Tumwine

Executive Director (MBChB, MMed Pediatrics)


He is a pediatrician at Children’s Clinic Naalya. He’s special interests have been in the promotion of quality health care services in the country. He oversees as well as promotes the interest of the private sector in the association.

Hon. Dr. Ritah Nasiima

She is a Pediatrician at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya. Her special interests have been in Emergency and Critical care, nutrition and Neonatology.
